Health Education and Disease Prevention - Promotores de Salud/Health Promoters: The Promotores de Salud program has been a part of CHisPA for the past 10 years and continues to be a vital part of the organization’s work. We have and will continue to receive funding from a variety of stakeholders who support decreasing health disparities amongst minority populations. The National Council of La Raza is a strong partner of CHiPA and recently recognized the organization and its work in health promotion. In addition, community members will be trained to carry forward the experiences and knowledge that is acquired through the Promotores de Salud. A unique characteristic of the Latino community is the importance of acquiring information through word-of-mouth. Our experience has shown that Latinos will share information they have learned about healthy behaviors with friends in their neighborhood, friends in other cities, friends in their country of birth, relatives in their country of birth or people at work
